Shows A and B were last weekend- Congratulations to all the dancers, in particular my little mice, the gentle breeze and the ocean’s lullaby– an amazing job, way to go! Shows C and D this coming weekend! Merde ladies! And then I’ll be all done, with no set engagement with the Shadbolt next year. I will miss all the amazing students and staff. Many thanks for everything.

Desiree Dunbar, The Contingency Plan, Puppet Heresy, Brenna McLaud, Sudnya Mulye, Peter Starr and Startdance present new works in MACC’s Connecting Community Dance Series, SHINE.

Come see Vanessa perform, a Contingency Plan co-creation entitled, “Character Study #1″.

Desiree Dunbar Dance Projects and the Moberly Arts and Cultural Centre present SHINE a Connecting Community Dance Series. The production will feature compelling new dance works created and performed by established, emerging and community dance artists.

Please join The Contingency Plan at BC Buds: A Spring Arts Fair!

We will be performing ADHERE, a work that we premiered at Here To Go, No. 1 back in January 2009 in Phase One of it’s development. After taking time to allow it to sit with us while we explored other choreographic avenues, we are excited to be returning to this work! We welcome your feedback on ADHERE as this performance at BC Buds is yet another stepping stone, or Phase Two.

“Adhere explores personal isolation from a social perspective, and investigates ideas of solitude and loneliness. This work focuses on revealing the relationship between the politics of the body and the politics of how we inhabit space in our culture.”

We hope you will be able to come by and check out ADHERE, as well as the many other FREE performances at BC Buds. Complete schedule can be found on the Firehall’s website, listed below.

TCP commissions new trio by James Gnam

The Contingency Plan is excited to announce that James Gnam of the plastic orchid factory will begin creation for a new trio on us in March 2010. An excerpt of the material generated from our first research period with James will be shown March 28th at the Arts Umbrella Sunday Performance Series.

DanceLab studio showing: Justine Chambers and Josh Hite, Jan 15

Justine Chambers and digital video artist, Josh Hite, are currently creatingCopy, a multi-disciplinary and participatory work that explores duplication, mimicry, degeneration and repetition. The piece reorganizes traditional expectations of the theatre and the lobby spaces, and proposes a co-creation between both dancers and viewers.

The collaborators are:

James Proudfoot - lighting design

Meghan Goodman, Vanessa Goodman, Katy Harris McLeod, Jane Osborne-interpreters

This studio showing is presented as part of The Dance Centre’s DanceLab program. Friday January 15, 5-7pm at Scotiabank Dance Centre.

I have recently enjoyed a one-week rehearsal period with Alvin Tolentino/Co. Erasga for his newest work, Shadow Machine. Project Details below…

SHADOW MACHINE - A large-scale interdisciplinary project of Co.ERASGA is set to unveil in the fall of 2010 in partnership with W2 Media Arts Society and Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre. Shadow Machine focuses on Vancouver’s shifting histories of industrial development and labour force to date. Featuring a core of dancers, and media artists Ken Gregory from Winnipeg, Carol Sawyer and Peter Courtemanche, both from Vancouver.
